Immeasurably More: Preparing to Vend at a market

Now if you could get immeasurably more of anything what would it be?

Now ❤ this blog if you said money. Let’s be honest…we all did!

Now although we can all use immeasurably more money sometimes that is not the only way you can experience More of something. I learned that in a way I would’ve never thought or imagined these past months as I prepared to vend at my first Market.

I launched my Etsy shop in June 2022, about 10 months after creating The Home That Sows, LLC. I had built my first DIY workbench and wanted to begin handcrafting home goods and decor such as cutting boards, charcuterie boards and more. With any business, as you come to the close of the year you begin to reflect and set goals for the upcoming year. If you’re me you also pray about them. For 2023 I knew one of the main things I wanted to do was bring my business off-offline and sell in person.

I had applied for Esther & Elsa and got accepted to participate in their Front Porch Fest. God was pushing through and being faithfully in his promise. Now it was my turn…and baby let me tell you…fear, doubt and the feeling of inadequacy started to set in and suddenly I was unmotivated to create.

I decided, to help me take my mind off of my fears, I would first take stock of the inventory I already had and then think about the pieces I wanted to add. That didn’t help because now I began to feel overwhelmed with all the ideas in my head of what I wanted to create. So then I turned to retail therapy and bought a bunch of stuff from Amazon that I ended up returning half of (you can click the link to see the stuff I kept 😉). I didn’t have the time to spend, nor the money to invest (waste) on projects I wasn’t about to begin.

So I went back through my list and weeded it out. What were the things I could do that were familiar to me, what items could I buy and jigs could I make to make the process more efficient? And of course you know your girl had to call Jesus up on that mainline for guidance.

In all it turned out great and when it was all said and done I realized that I had achieved immeasurably more than I could think or imagine as I prepared for the event. While I still want the money (I mean who doesn’t) when the event was over I took the time to debrief and reflected on everything. It was at that time that I began to realize just how I conquered so many fears and firsts.

  • First time using router table again after router accident that required stitches

  • First time learning how to use a pointed roundover bit

  • First time learning how to make hexagon coasters

Hexagon Roundover coasters

  • Retried making a freeform handle Sapele charcuterie board

  • Purchased and learned how to use a template for my wine caddy for the first time

  • Learned how to make a beer flight for the first time

Wood Board Flight
  • Learned how to laser wood magnets

  • Learned how to make a pegboard display stand (and even made two)

  • Lasered my first cutting board stand

  • Glued up my longest wooden serving tray at 24 inches

And there are so many more things that I can’t even remember them all to name them. So I ask you today, what have you been focused on obtaining immeasurably more of that you are overlooking the ways that God has already provided it?

I challenge you to open your eyes and look for them today.

Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21
